I am the current VISTA Leader for 55,000 Degrees. I wanted to just take a moment and officially introduce this blog! Wha-la! Done!
Ok. I suppose I'll say a bit more.
I'm not sure who, if anyone, will ever read these posts. But for anyone who is curious about what this experience has been like for one member, I am happy to share. VISTA has been a transformative experience for me as a young professional. Graduating from college, I was in a near panic at almost all times scrambling to figure out what to do once I graduated. Now, I know.
I know what it's like to work in a professional environment. I know the kinds of friends and memories you can make when you let yourself really invest in a project and a mission. I know now that I am capable of creating and collaborating and messing up and surviving those mess ups. I know now what I love to do and even what I don't love to do. I also know what I want to do with the rest of my life, not to say that I have a career path in mind or a 20 year plan or even a 5 year plan, but I do know I want to continue giving back for the time that I have in whatever capacity I can.
This experience has been invaluable for me and, if you're considering applying, maybe it will be for you too.
